Frontera Norte (The Northern Border), commissioned by the Center for Music Experiment, University of California, San Diego, for the Intercambio program. (1992)(7:08)
For computer-mediated keyboard and four imitators.
The "imitators" are seated in the four corners of the auditorium surrounding the audience, while the keyboard player performs on stage. They wear headphones, listening to portable cassette recorders, repeating what they hear on tape. The tapes contain randomly assembled excerpts from tapes to study foreign languages: French, Spanish, and Bebop.
